Dr. Hymel started her professional life as a graphic designer, using computers to create art for advertising and marketing campaigns. Her passion for art eventually led her down another path to a career where she could impact others in more positive and profoundly personal ways.
She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Louisiana State University in 2001 with a BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in Graphic Design. As an incoming freshman, she was named an Alumni Association Top 100 Scholar, and as an undergraduate student, she was on the Dean's List and was inducted into numerous academic and leadership honor societies.
She returned to the classroom eight years later, this time at the University of New Orleans for the Biology, Chemistry, and Physics coursework prerequisite to entering dental school. Dr. Hymel received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans in May of 2015. She was honored to be the recipient of the following accolades upon graduation:
Just weeks after graduating, Dr. Hymel had the opportunity to join the practice where she had been a long-time patient - Glaser Family Practice in Boutte, Louisiana. For the Luling native and 1996 graduate of Hahnville High School, joining the esteemed practice of Dr. Laurie Glaser and her father, Dr. Peter Glaser, was a welcome return to a community she knows well. As dental offices began to re-open after initially closing in response to the Covid pandemic, Dr. Hymel joined Avenue Family Dentistry in New Orleans as a part-time associate.
In April 2023, Dr. Hymel started seeing her own private dental patients in Lakeview. Located at 6251 General Diaz Street, Dr. Hymel personally welcomes people to a calm and comfortable office environment and takes the time needed to build relationships with those who trust her with their dental care.
Dr. Hymel is a faculty member in the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry at her alma mater - the LSUHSC School of Dentistry - as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Operative Dentistry. She is always energized when working with the dental students and is having more fun than she thought going back to school (yet again!) could ever be! She still has enough time though to help her dental colleagues by providing locum tenens services in the greater New Orleans area.
Dr. Hymel and her husband, Jean Paul, live in New Orleans, where he works in mechanical contracting. They have two daughters, Louise and Lucille, who attend the Academy of the Sacred Heart, where Dr. Hymel volunteers much of her free time. The family enjoys traveling together, but never runs out of things to do in the city they love, especially during Carnival time, the most wonderful time of the year!
